Module 1 explores net-zero principles, emissions sources, and targets. Module 2 introduces energy systems and their analysis, covering renewable and fossil fuels, efficiency, and energy conversion. Module 3 focuses on emissions reduction strategies for energy systems, including efficiency, fuel switching, electrification, and more. In Module 4, the course navigates through transition pathways, emissions reduction plans, and real-world case studies.

This innovative Waikato-certified  ‘Net Zero and Energy Transition Pathways’ course has been custom developed for QUIN Institute executives by world-renowned energy experts at the AHUORA Centre for Smart Energy Systems at the University of Waikato, New Zealand.

The course aims to empower you with the latest science-informed knowledge, methods and tools to understand, develop and confidently optimise your green transition plans to be ahead of the curve. Following successful completion of this course you will gain a University of Waikato Certificate of Achievement.

Waikato’s innovative teaching approach, that successfully embeds applied activities throughout teaching modules, ensures meaningful deep assimilation and application of course material. 

Over an 8-week period, you will spend approximately 4-6 hours a week:

  • Learning the fundamental net zero and energy core principles and concepts
  • Turning theory into practice as you learn how to apply core knowledge effectively to solve real world challenges in your organisation
  • Developing your skills and wider understanding of energy systems and emission reduction options 
  • Understanding how to set net zero targets and undertake mandatory reporting

  • Optimising transitional planning via emissions reductions pathways

Course structure
Consisting of 4 core modules, this net zero and energy course developed by global energy experts, is delivered via the innovative Waikato teaching format of online presentations (recorded) coupled with associated applied activities. This Waikato teaching approach has been demonstrated to increase engagement and understanding of applied course material resulting in highest learning assimilation and implementation impact.

Study hours
This 8-week course of 4 interconnected net zero and energy modules is delivered entirely online and has been specifically designed by a team of global energy experts to maximise learning outcomes whilst supporting study flexibility, suited for executives to undertake in parallel to work.

Each of the 4 course modules:

  • Spans a 2 week period and consists of approximately 8-10 total learning hours, studied flexibly at your place, pace and schedule.
  • Consists of innovative bitesized module units in the format of recorded presentations coupled with applied online assessed activities.

University of Waikato Certificate of Achievement
Points are awarded for each unit activity and the University of Waikato will award a final Certificate of Achievement for successful course completion.

    How does the MyQuin registration process work?

    Registration is a simple 3-step process:

    1. Choose and register for your chosen course. Please note earlybird dates to secure reduced course fees and reach out for a bespoke reduced rate for team discounts. 
    2. Complete the online registration form and we'll be in touch with more information and your invoice.
    3. On payment of your course invoice, you will receive your unique MyQuin code to access the Quin Learning Platform and to start your Quin learning experience with us.

    How does MyQuin Training support climate action?

    The Adaptation and Mitigation Program (AMP)  for the Global South, supports the bold acceleration of high impact, science-informed climate action via an integrated and targeted ‘Climate with Nature’ mitigation and adaptation action approach. AMP aims to accelerate the roll out and scale up of renewable energy via our AMP PowerUP initiative and delivery of science-informed Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to protect natural ecosystems and biodiversity. Our Scientific and Technical Expert Panel (STEP) of world-leading scientists and technical experts inform the Adaptation and Mitigation Program (AMP).

    What are the technical requirements for this course?

    An Internet connection with latest version of preferred browser will be required to access the QUIN Learning Platform. This course is delivered entirely online and for flexibility, the content will be accessible across all devices (laptop, tablet and mobile phone). Some course content such as livestream lectures/webinars must be streamed via the internet, but all sessions will be recorded and accessible to view at a convenient time later. 

    Course material such as Powerpoint presentation, Word documents, PDF files, spreadsheets will require access to Microsoft Office in addition to a PDF reader such as Adobe.

    How can I defer or cancel my course enrolment?

    We are committed to your professional development and understand that personal circumstances may change.

    Within the first two weeks of the course i.e ahead of Module 2 release, we can change/defer your course start date to a later date or arrange for a refund if you are not fully satisfied. To arrange either a course deferral or refund within the first two weeks of your course, please either contact QUIN support directly or your course lecturer will be able to assist.
